Natural History Museum of
Los Angeles County
Research Study Grants
Short term grants are offered to conduct research, with
emphasis on collections based studies, at the Natural History Museum of Los
Angeles County. The Museum houses a world-class collection of 33 million
specimens in its Divisions of Human Studies, Invertebrate Zoology, and
Vertebrate Zoology (please refer to the Museum's web site (www.nhm.org)
for further information about the strengths of departmental collections.
Grants partially support travel and subsistence while
visiting the Museum, with a maximum award of $1,500. Visits must be first
arranged with and approved by a Curator of the Museum. Click

A description of the proposed research and a budget are
required. The successful applicant will have contacted the appropriate museum
personnel (including curatorial and collection management staff) regarding the
suitability and availability of the collection for proposed research. Applicants
are also encouraged to deliver a presentation about their research to the
scientific staff of the Museum. A final, one-page report should be sent soon
after completion of the visit. Applicants are also required to acknowledge the
Research Study Grants in any publication featuring the research conducted at the
Museum and to provide to the Museum two reprints (or photocopies) of the
publication.
Any national or international researcher (predoctoral
and doctoral students, postdoctoral fellows or senior scientists) is eligible
for this grant provided that he/she does not reside within daily commuting
distance of the Museum. Applications should be submitted electronically. Two
application deadlines are set annually (January 31th and June 30th).
Announcements will be made in March and September.
